A 16-year-old girl, Melojuekun Barakat Mayowa in a viral video has alleged a Commissioner for Environment in Ogun State, Abiodun Abudu-Balogun of sexual harassment and a failed attempt to touch her head using incantation.
She said the encounter was made possible through the connivance of her uncle, Lasisi Saheed(aka Mayor) and a teacher with Ilushin Grammar School, Ogun Waterside Local Government, Mr Austin, to lure her to the commissioner’s house at Ita-Otu for empowerment.
In the video, Barakat said her first encounter with the commissioner was on December 29th,2020 at Igbeade Motorcycle Park on her way to National Identification Management Commission office for NIN registration and the second and the last was December 31st, 2020 where she was sexually harassed at his residence by Balogun.
She said Mayor came to her grand parents to seek their consent to take her for an empowerment(computer operator) at Abiodun Abudu-Balogun’s Ita-Otu residence where she met again the teacher, Mr Austin. She explained that It was Austin who took her from the living room to another vacant room where Austin engaged her on her refusal to turn up on the first encounter with the commissioner. She further said that the moment commissioner came into the room, Austin left immediately and Balogun locked the door and kept the key in his pocket.
“He(commissioner) moved to me and asked for the name of my school and I told him I attend Victory Model College. He asked how much is my school fees and I told him 30,000 Naira. He asked again who pays my School fees and I answered my dad.
“He said don’t I think of starting a business before going to school (tertiary) and I said no, that I want to go to higher institution first. He said okay, if I need money how much should that be? I replied that any amount.
“He now moved closer to me and pressing my breast and I now moved away his hand. He said won’t I cooperate and I said why should I cooperate. He now started pressing my breast, my body and harassing me something like that5.
“I was trying to free myself, he now started reciting incantations and trying to place his hand on my head. I told him they don’t touch my head and he tried to force me into the bathroom and I struggled with him.
“I started shouting because people are within the compound and he didn’t want them to know what was happening. He now left me and gave me four 500Naira notes for transport which I rejected.
“He said if I didn’t collect the money he won’t let go of me. So i collected the four 500 Naira notes from him and he opened the door and went out of his house. He asked Mr Austin to take me to my house. I have never been harassed like this in my life ” Barakat narrated in an interview.
However, in a counter claim, the commissioner has issued a press statement denying the allegations as untrue and a figment of imagination.
Balogun described the video as teleguided and political blackmail by his adversaries.
“My attention has been drawn to a purported video circulating on social media of a girl alleging that I attempted to sexually harrass her. Let it be noted that in my entire life and political career, I have assisted many youth to secure jobs, some are working with me in my different businesses.
“On this said day, the girl was brought to my house by one of my loyalists who is her Uncle, to assist her get a job as a Computer Operator at the ICT Centre I facilitated while I was serving as a member of House of Representatives years back which has been moribund but I am about to rehabilitate in order to empower more youths in our local government.
“I met her at my sitting room for few minutes where many of my loyalists are, people that came to visit me for the New Year. I chatted with the lady for few minutes and as part of my usual gesture, I gave her some amount of money for her transportation.
“A day after, I was informed by some people that I have been alleged to have attempted to sexually harrass the girl and I should invite the family for a meeting so as to settle the matter amicably.
“It was after my refusal to yield to their threats that they went ahead to make a teleguided video leading the lady on what to say to implicate me. This is purely a political blackmail by my adversaries.
“Let me state emphatically that I never attempted to sexually harrass anyone.
“I therefore plead with my fans and loyalists to be calm and not engage anyone on the said matter as it is been handled by the Police and my legal team.”
Newsloungeng has learnt that the commissioner has been invited by the police for interrogation
